Why Medicaid Matters: A Mother’s Fight for Her Son—and for Families Like Hers (English subtitled)
Experience the story of a family whose journey reveals how essential Medicaid-funded services are for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) to live healthy and safe in their communities.
The story centers on Evelyn, a strong mother, and leader who speaks out every day for her son, Benji, who has I/DD, and for families like hers. Evelyn is the founder and director of an organization called Padres Mentores Centro de Entrenamiento Familiar (Parent Mentors Family Training Center) and also supports families as an Independent Facilitator under the regional center’s Self-Determination Program.
Their story highlights the impact of Medicaid-funded services in making it possible for individuals with I/DD to live a life of dignity, remain in their own home under the care of loved ones, and be surrounded by the love and support of family.
