Can unpaid caregivers receive training or counseling to better support me?

SCDD Description

Training and counseling for unpaid people who support the participant, such as family, friends, neighbors, companions, or coworkers; it is not for paid staff training.

 DDS Description

Training and counseling for unpaid individuals who support the participant, including family members, neighbors, friends, companions, or co-workers. This service may not be provided to paid caregivers. Training covers IPP services and supports, use of specified equipment, and updates needed to safely maintain the participant at home. Registration and training fees are covered; travel, meals, and overnight lodging are not. This service does not duplicate Family/Consumer Training (366).

A parent or trusted friend receives training on how to support communication, routines, safety, or behavior strategies.
