If I get a job, is there someone who can be with me on the job to provide support when I need it?

SCDD Description

This service focuses on helping adults obtain employment. This may include job coaching for an individual doing paid work in the community. The pay is similar to what an individual without a disability gets paid. The job coach teaches the skills needed for the job, makes sure the job is done properly, and helps the employee meet and feel comfortable with co-workers. The job coach may reduce the amount of time at the job once the employee is settled into the routine and office environment.

DDS Description

Supported Employment (Individual) provides one-on-one support to help individuals obtain and keep competitive, integrated jobs.
Services include job development (finding and securing employment) and job coaching (ongoing support to maintain and advance in a job), and must meet Title 17 standards.

Example

An office hires a self-advocate to fold, stuff and mail many thousands of envelopes to its mailing list. The job coach makes sure the employee understands the job, teaches the needed skills, helps the employee develop relationships with other employees in the office, and figures out accommodations that may be needed for the person.
