Is it possible to get specialized medical, dental, or mental health services for my child who has challenging behaviors?

SCDD Description

If there is a clinical opinion that it is necessary due to behavioral or other challenges, and it is in the Individual Program Plan, the regional center may pay for services from a professional with specialized training in working with individuals with developmental disabilities. This may include: a licensed dentist, dental hygienist, doctor, surgeon, speech therapist, occupational therapist or assistant, physical therapist or assistant, respiratory therapist, registered nurse, licensed vocational nurse, nurse practitioner, chemical addiction counselor, social worker, or psychologist.

DDS Description

As part of rate reform, effective January 1, 2025, this service code will be transitioning to new service code and can no longer be used.

Example

You need a dentist who is skilled in handling your child's extreme anxiety and agitation. There are none in your area who accept Medi-Cal. The regional center may pay for the dental work from one of the dentists on the list of vendored (approved) dentists.
