Can I get help building skills before I am ready for a job?

SCDD Description

Support to build basic work-related, independence, community, and participation skills that may help prepare for future employment.

DDS Description

Individualized services designed to help participants develop the foundational skills needed for future competitive integrated employment, including self-employment or volunteer opportunities, as well as community participation and independence. Services focus on non-job-task-specific skill building and may include workplace readiness, communication and social skills, problem-solving, money management, work habits, and career exploration in integrated community settings. The goal is to increase opportunities for competitive integrated employment at or above minimum wage. Transportation from the participant's home is not included, and services may not duplicate supports available through the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 or the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

Example

A participant practices following directions, time management, communication, and task completion before pursuing a paid job.
