If I want to learn about different jobs in the community, and practice various skills in the community, who can I go to?

SCDD Description

An adult day program that helps self-advocates in learning skills they will need for jobs, volunteer positions, or college. Activities take place in the community, not at the self-advocate's home. The provider may be chosen by the self-advocate or family member, but they cannot be the provider themselves.

DDS Description

Participant-Directed Community-Based Training for Adults helps individuals build skills for employment, volunteering, or further education in community settings.

The service is directed by the consumer, family member, or conservator, who selects a qualified adult provider (not themselves), and services are delivered in natural community environments, not in the home.

Example

You want someone who can take you to the supermarket and help you learn to count change. Or you might like to be a bagger at a grocery store, but first you want to try by volunteering to bag food at a food bank. OR You want to learn how to find books at a library on a research topic, if you want to go to college.
