My adult child with autism has a special bond with his cousin. Can this cousin get paid to live in an apartment with my child and provide them needed support?

SCDD Description

Parent-coordinated supported living program services promote positive social behavior and skills through paid staff, housemates, family and friends. Use of this service must be approved by the Department of Developmental Services.

DDS Description

Use of this service code requires prior approval by the Department.

A regional center shall classify a vendor as a Parent Coordinated Supported Living Program vendor if the vendor promotes and reinforces social behavior and skill levels through paid staff, housemates, family and friends.

Example

You work out an arrangement with the regional center for your child's cousin to be their supported living staff in an apartment your child lives in. The cousin would be with your child from a few hours to 24 hours a day, depending on their need. Support provided could include keeping your child safe, helping redirect challenging behaviors, meal planning, cooking, cleaning and getting out into the community. This service must be approved by the Department of Developmental Services.
