How are personal and incidental needs covered if my SSI/SSP personal allowance is not available?

SCDD Description

Nonreimbursed Personal and Incidental funds help cover a person’s personal needs while living in residential care when the regular SSI/SSP personal allowance is not available or has not been reimbursed. These funds may need to be repaid if SSI/SSP benefits are later approved or restored.

DDS Description

Personal and Incidental (P&I) allowance is a portion of SSI/SSP for regional center clients in residential care, typically managed by the vendor. While typically funded by SSI, if not provided, the regional center must ensure it is available. Nonreimbursed P&I refers to funds spent for client needs that are not replenished by the SSA, which, if SSI is in the application process, the resident must refund to the Regional Center

Example

You live in a care home and need clothing, toiletries, or personal items while your SSI is still being processed. The regional center helps make sure you have money for basic personal needs.
