Can we get an American Sign Language interpreter for our family member who is hearing-impaired, at their IPP meeting?

SCDD Description

A person fluent in both English and American Sign Language (ASL) who can facilitate communication between hearing-impaired and hearing deaf or hard of hearing persons using ASL and spoken language.

DDS Description

A regional center shall classify a vendor as an interpreter if the vendor demonstrates: (A) Fluency in both English and in sign language; and (B) Proficiency in facilitating communication between hearing-impaired and hearing persons using American sign language and spoken language.

Example

Our adult child has severe hearing impairment in both ears. They have grown up using American Sign Language (ASL). They need an ASL interpreter at their IPP so that they can fully participate as independently as possible.
