In SDP, how can I get support to participate in my community and build independence?

SCDD Description

Supports a participant to learn and practice the skills needed to take part in community life. Services are tailored to the participant's personal goals and may include socialization, communication, recreation, continuing education, peer mentoring, and learning to use transportation. These supports do not take place in the participant's home.

DDS Description

Provides tailored supports to help SDP participants acquire, improve, or maintain the skills needed to participate in community life alongside non-disabled individuals, in integrated community settings.

Example

A participant wants to become more independent in the community. The support provider helps them learn to ride the city bus to a weekly art class, practice interacting with peers, and build the confidence to attend a local faith-based group on their own.
