Can my SDP budget help cover extra rent or food costs for a live-in caregiver?

SCDD Description

Helps pay reasonable extra rent and food costs for an unrelated caregiver who lives in the participant’s home to provide personal care support.

 DDS Description

Covers the reasonable additional costs of rent and food for an unrelated live-in caregiver who lives in the participant's home and provides personal care support. The participant must rent, lease, or own the home. A legal guardian cannot provide this service. This payment is not available when the participant lives in the caregiver's home.

 Example

An adult participant rents an apartment and has an unrelated live-in caregiver; the budget helps cover the caregiver’s added household costs.
