Where can I get a van modified for my physical disabilities?

SCDD Description

Vehicle modification and adaptation such as devices, controls or services which allow the self-advocates to live in their home and access the community .May include adaptations such as door handles, door widening, lifting devices, wheelchair securing devices, adapted seat devices, adapted steering, acceleration, signaling and braking devices; handrails and grab bars. Includes installation, repair and maintenance. Vehicle must be owned by the self-advocates or the self-advocates 's family.

DDS Description

Regional centers can help consumers become independent by helping with modifying vehicles to fit their needs.

Example

Your uncle is giving you a hand-me-down van. Since you use a wheelchair and do not have use of your feet, you will need it equipped with a lift and with adapted steering and braking devices. If there is no other agency or way to pay for it, the regional may consider funding this, if it is in your IPP.
