Back-to-School Month

A new school year is full of possibilities—but it can also bring questions and uncertainty. Whether your child is starting a new school, entering a new grade, or continuing their educational journey, SCDD is here to support students with disabilities and their families every step of the way.

Our Back-to-School Resource Guide brings together information, tools, and trusted resources to help families understand special education, advocate for their child, promote inclusion, and support their child’s success throughout the school year. The guide includes information about educational rights, IEPs, inclusion, advocacy, health and well-being, and organizations that can support your family along the way.

Each workshop focuses on a different topic and may be attended independently or together, depending on your interests and needs.

Statewide School Year Kickoff Sessions

Join SCDD for our free School Year Kickoff Sessions, offered in English and Spanish, to help families feel informed, prepared, and confident as the school year begins.

Whether you’re new to special education or looking to strengthen your knowledge, these sessions provide practical information to help you support your child’s education.

Education Basics and Q&A Session

Learn about the fundamentals of special education, including educational rights, key processes, and available resources. Families will also have the opportunity to ask questions and receive practical guidance to help navigate their child’s educational experience.
